Cardiogenic Shock: Why Blood Pressure Can Look Better While Perfusion Gets Worse

Cardiogenic shock is not defined by blood pressure alone.

It is a failure of cardiac output to meet tissue demand.

This distinction matters because blood pressure can improve while perfusion remains poor.

Mean arterial pressure depends on cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance.

If cardiac output is low, the body may compensate by increasing systemic vascular resistance. Vasopressors can amplify this response and raise MAP.
